Reporting AI

Overview

As AI increasingly becomes part of our everyday lives, its impact on societies will continue to grow and news stories about it will undoubtedly multiply. However, it is not an easy topic to report on. It’s a complicated data-driven technology, without a face! It is another topic that divides audiences, and while many welcome the opportunities it brings, others have concerns about how it may be misused or affect jobs. So, how to make complex tech simple and present AI to audiences in a way that is relevant to them, reporting the risks without scaremongering and breaking inspiring new stories?

This new class is led by technology journalist Svea Eckart, who works for Germany's NDR and ARD. Svea looks at this evolving specialist topic within journalism and addresses the challenges in reporting AI, including holding big tech, new power brokers in society to account. The session also explores the role of journalism in supporting the AI literacy of audiences.
